Have you blamed God today?
I've been thinking a lot about one of my favorite Old Testament stories, the story of Job. It's one of the most ridiculous stories in the bible, and that's why I am so attracted to it. For those of you don't know the story, Job was a guy who was doing the will of God, he was blameless and shunned evil. So then satan and God are speaking to one another, and satan challenges God to take everything away from Job and then he will curse God. So God gives satan control over everything he has, and satan takes everything away from Job. His livestock dies, his possessions are lost, his servants are lost. What does Job do? Curse God? No, he falls to his knees and praises God. Next comes my favorite part of this passage. In Job 1:22, it says this: 22 In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing. I find that so amazing. Job's life is suddenly destroyed, and the first thing he does is fall to his knees and praise God. How many of us could say that when hard times come, the first thing we do is praise God? For many of us, the question is why? Why now? Why me? What have I done? Job does none of this, only praises God and acknowledges how powerful God is. In times like these, times of uncertainty, when hard times come, I challenge you to praise God in times of struggle. We must always remember that we serve a powerful God. It is in times of struggle that we grow most.
