So...

Friends, I am writing this to inform you of an amazing opportunity that I have been offered. In August I will be traveling to San Diego to be trained and prepare for one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I have been chosen to represent Invisible Children as a roadie. Invisible Children is a movie, a movement and a mission. It is an organization which is trying to tell the story of the children in northern Uganda whose lives have been affected by end the longest running war in Africa. Invisible Children started with a documentary that told the stories of children ages 8-15 who live in Northern Uganda and are being abducted out of their homes and forced to fight in a rebel army known as the Lord's Resistance Army or the LRA. This film has been a major impact on the millions who have seen it, and it has sparked a desire for change in the hearts of many, including myself.
This is where I come into the story. In May I saw a video about a position that IC offers called a roadie. The roadies are the lifeblood of Invisible Children, they travel all around the country for 5 months, telling the stories of the children to those who have not yet heard it. I immediately was attracted to this idea, so I decided to apply. About a month later I got a call from one of the HR reps and thus began the long process of interviews. After my third interview, they informed me that they would contact me in the next week to let me know if I was accepted. On Tuesday of the next week, I received a call, informing me that Invisible Children would like me to join them on the Fall 2009 Roadie Tour. Although this is quite an important position, it is also a pretty crazy one. It involves living out of a van with three other people for 4 months while traveling the country spreading the message of IC.
Now comes the part where I need you, and the part I hate. Being that this is an unpaid position, I need to raise about 2000 dollars to cover my living expenses while on the road. Why doesn't the company just pay for everything? Well, simply put, I'd rather use the money I've already raised to further the cause. I hate to be the guy begging for money, but it would be a tremendous help, as I will have to pay for airfare and all my living expenses. I've set up a pay pal account where you can donate anything you can spare, even if it's just a dollar. If can't spare any money right now, then I would just ask that you keep me in your prayers over the next 6 months. Pray that God moves in me, and in the people I will be speaking to.
I would like to close this blog by challenging you. Get out and do something. So many times we love to talk about how many things are wrong with this world of ours, but when the time comes to get off the couch and do something, we love to point to someone else and say " Well, I just can't spare any time right now." I'm sick of excuses, and I'm sick of lazy Christians. We need more people who will get out and spread the love of Christ. So next time you get an opportunity, whether it's buying a bag of chips for a homeless man, or going around the U.S. telling the stories of the invisible, jump at the chance. You won't regret it.

  1. Congrats Josiah! This is a really incredible opportunity and you not only have the opportunity to spread the word of invisible children, but to also spread the love of Jesus to the people you will be touring with! How cool! I don't have money to spare at the moment, but prayers i do and if anything changes financially, you'll be on the top of my list :). Keep me updated! I'm excited for you!

  2. Josiah,

Awesome stuff. Give me a call so that I may be able to present this idea to some people in the church.
